Uppsala Tramway

From Design Vision to Future Mobility

Uppsala Tramway – a new chapter in sustainable urban mobility
As Uppsala expands its public transport network with a brand-new tramway, design plays a key role in creating an attractive, sustainable, and accessible system. LundbergDesign was commissioned to lead the development of the tram’s visual identity and to define the design and functional requirements that will guide the next steps of the project.

Developing the Designbook for Uppsala’s Tramway
Working closely with Uppsala Municipality, we produced a comprehensive Designbook that outlines the vision for the tramway’s exterior and interior design, material selection, passenger experience, and accessibility solutions. The Designbook ensures that Uppsala’s ambitions for high-quality, sustainable public transport are clearly reflected in the future vehicles.

Setting functional and design requirements
Beyond the visual identity, LundbergDesign defined technical and functional design requirements to ensure that future trams meet high standards for usability, comfort, and long-term durability. Our work covered the entire process — from early concept development and formgiving to requirement setting and technical consultancy — always in close collaboration with Uppsala’s project team.

A strong design vision for Uppsala’s future tram system
The result is a clear, future-proof design direction that will shape the look and feel of Uppsala’s tramway for decades to come. With the Designbook and requirements now in place, the project is moving forward towards procurement and realization — bringing Uppsala one step closer to a more sustainable and connected city.
